Unfair Competition

BUSINESS & PROFESSIONAL CODE § 17200 et seq. defines it clearly.

"Unfair competition includes any unlawful, unfair or fraudulent business act or practice and unfair, deceptive, untrue or misleading advertising."

Often a business or competitor will misrepresent their products and or services as being something they are not.  A business will violate state and federal employment guidelines to illegally and unfairly exercise a business advantage when operating in a competitive market.  A company will employ pricing strategies, selling practices and not-quite-right marketing and advertising campaigns to exploit a competitor's weakness or consumer's ignorance.
